Norton Healthcare, a health network based in Louisville, Kentucky, is currently working with the FBI to investigate an ongoing cyberattack and assess the extent of the breach.
The attack prompted Norton Healthcare to bring down its patient care systems proactively on May 9 after discovering suspicious network activity and receiving threats through a fax.
While the network remained operational during the incident, clinicians are now relying on manual processes to continue providing patient care, resulting in longer wait times and delays in network-related capabilities.
Efforts are underway to restore the systems and prioritize patients with urgent medical needs. Norton Healthcare is urging non-emergency patients to visit urgent care locations instead of the main hospital for same-day appointments.
The health network acknowledges the challenges posed by the cyberattack and assures its community that experts are working diligently to address the situation and provide answers to patient inquiries.
This cyberattack on Norton Healthcare is part of a series of recent incidents affecting healthcare organizations. Other institutions, such as Murfreesboro Medical Clinic & SurgiCenter, Richmond University Medical Center, and several others, have also experienced cyber-related outages, highlighting the increasing threat to the healthcare sector’s digital infrastructure.
