Just over one year after the entry into application of the General Data Protection Regulation, the European Commission has published today a report looking at the positive impact of the EU data protection rules, and how they can be improved further.
THE COMMISSION IDENTIFIED THE FOLLOWING TAKEAWAYS FOR THE FUTURE

Strenghtening the role of data protection authorities by:
• encouraging Member States to allocate sufficient resources to the data protection authorities;
• stepping up cooperation between national data protection authorities;
• making full use of all the tools, including by adopting Code of Conducts available under the General Data Protection Regulation, so that the rules are applied in the same manner in all Member States.
Supporting and involving stakeholders from civil society and business; making sure that individuals and businesses, including SMEs, can enjoy the benefits brought by the GDPR.
Integrating data protection into all relevant policies.
Promoting international convergence towards a high level of data protection rules.
