The website of the French Senate was taken down on Friday by pro-Russian hackers who claimed responsibility for the attack. The group, known as NoName, said that it acted because “France is working with Ukraine on a new ‘aid’ package which may include weapons”. The French Senate said that a team was working on fixing the problem.
NoName previously claimed responsibility for taking down the website of the French lower-house National Assembly in March for several hours.
The group has also claimed responsibility for disrupting Canadian government websites last month while Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal was visiting Canada.
In a statement, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that the attack would not dissuade the country from supporting Ukraine.
The incident marks the latest in a series of cyberattacks since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year.
